ABSTRACT

Like all life on earth, we modern humans owe our nature to the process of Darwinian natural selection. The application of evolutionary principles to human psychology is one of the great intellectual revolutions of the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries, on par with relativity theory and quantum mechanics. Men and women, forged from the fire of different evolutionary pressures, diverged on to two separate paths. An understanding of evolution, and how our environment shaped our species over time, is the key to understanding the driving force behind human sexuality. In this chapter we shine the light of this Darwinian revolution on eroticism and contrast the unique and often incompatible strategies men and women utilize in their pursuit of love and sex.
