ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to pass on a few honest reflections on the problems encountered in developing a piece of interdisciplinary courseware under the umbrella of tltp. Working with an interdisciplinary team to produce cal courseware proved more difficult than anticipated. More training, organization and sustained teamwork were needed to establish a common language and mode of operation. The computer has the obvious advantage of an interactive dimension and the capacity for rapid calculation, so the drudgery is removed and the student can concentrate on the application. Moreover, the interactive, dynamic aspect of cal can introduce an element of fun or play which is often welcome in a subject which many experience as rather dry; a means to an end perhaps rather than interesting in its own right. The alternative approach suggested by Bunderson et al. is to provide working models in which the learner can perform.
