ABSTRACT

A dispute is a verbal expression of a difference of opinion, a controversy in which conflicting contentions are argued. A paradox is a seemingly self-contradictory statement, or just any unexplained or surprising contradiction, sometimes merely an apparent contradiction which disappears upon closer inspection or reflection, sometimes a statement or “phenomenon that exhibits some conflict with preconceived notions of what is reasonable or possible.” A dilemma is a choice between equally unfavorable alternatives. It may be the conflict involved in a difficult choice, where the decision in favor of one alternative implies the sacrifice of the other, especially when there are moral commitments to favor both. If development is a process leading from a less developed to a more developed stage, economic development implies the idea of a “less developed” and perhaps of an “underdeveloped economy.”.
