Edgerton is Research Social Scientist and Professor of Anthropology at the Neuropsychiatric Institute, University of California, Los Angeles. His principal interest is psychological anthropology, particularly the comparative study of social deviance. In addition to research in East Africa, he has studied the Menominee Indians of Wisconsin and several ethnic populations in urban areas. He is the author of The Cloak of Competence.
