ABSTRACT

This chapter sees the criticism of the traditional doctrine of creatio ex nihilo as a chance to understand creation as a creatio continua in the sense of a creatio ex amore. Borrowing from the work of Raimon Panikkar (1918–2010), I interpret creation as an incarnatio continua, whose Christological understanding of creation as a single cosmos and history allows a greater appreciation of the world and human beings. The classical Christological framework can accentuate the intensive unity between God and the world in Jesus Christ. Because my focus lies on Christology, I can only briefly touch on a more precise understanding of creation as an incarnatio and a vificatio continua in Trinitarian theology.
