ABSTRACT

The aim of this chapter is to present an evidence-based framework including the contextual assets and practices that shape the necessary and sufficient conditions through which community sport programmes may foster social inclusionary outcomes. The results presented in this chapter are derived from an in-depth cross-case comparison of three community sport cases for each social inclusionary outcome (i.e. personal development, health and social cohesion). In this chapter, we focus on patterns of commonality resulting from different research cycles involving nine distinct community sport programmes in Flanders, the Northern Dutch-speaking part of Belgium. Despite the similarities across cases and themes, it is important to recognise that each community sport programme consists of a unique set of contextual assets and practices that shape the conditions for practitioners to work towards socially inclusionary objectives. The results presented here may serve as an evidence-based framework for practitioners working towards personal development, health and social cohesion within community sport programmes.
