ABSTRACT

The concluding chapter brings together our perspectives in this volume, as we survey at a high level the accountability and governance deficits in decentralised business models, issues of regulatory arbitrage and impact on economic fragility. Decentralised business models - lying between hierarchies and markets - have a potentially bright future if structured and governed in the right way. The challenge for policymakers and business practitioners alike will be to embrace organisational innovation in a manner which sustains commitment to universal governance principles such as meaningful accountability, effective decision making, business ethics, social legitimacy and stakeholder partnership.
