ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines issues commonly faced by clients dealing with divorce and remarriage. Ways in which the ORCA-Stance can be applied to support the therapeutic process when working with these populations are considered through two case studies provided as illustrative examples of challenges commonly faced by clients and therapists alike. The case study on divorce looks at how openness through self-disclosure on the part of the therapist can be useful in enhancing the therapeutic partnership by normalizing the struggle of the client. The case study on blended families exemplifies how respect and accountability can be applied by the therapist in recognizing and addressing misalignment that may arise in the therapeutic relationship. Best practices are also offered.
