ABSTRACT

Ethical codes provide broad guidelines for the practicing clinician; however, ethical codes often fail to address the idiosyncrasies of each ethical issue that arises. This chapter explores how openness, respect, curiosity, and accountability to power may assist clinicians with addressing the idiosyncrasies of ethical issues. We first provide a case example to illustrate the complexities with ethical practice. Next, we explore ideas around best practices and offer examples of how openness, respect, curiosity, and accountability to power can assist with ethical practice.
