ABSTRACT

This chapter richly describes the ways in which multicultural and historical contexts shape how we navigate our relationships. From missionary and church contexts starting in Boston and moving to Hong Kong, China, Seattle, and finally Berlin, Germany, the author illustrates how the dimensions of the ORCA-Stance helped him to respond with more understanding and effectiveness during difficult encounters. Written after but describing events prior to his Seattle University ORCA-Stance training program, the author applies insights and practical examples of how to become a more effective explorer within a variety of cross-cultural and interpersonal settings.
