ABSTRACT

The image of football fans is often unfavorable in media and social discourses. Yet football fans are an important part of contemporary society and often constitute a positive force for change, including Holocaust remembrance. Educational projects and remembrance work organized by football fans and clubs have developed in various countries and leagues in recent years. In this chapter, Andreas Kahrs traces the development of this work and explains the special circumstances and possibilities of these projects. He further shows what contributions fan scenes and clubs can make to the continuation of social remembering.
