Indian scientists are exploring new areas for further development of Ayurveda. Pierre has been largely used in the traditional Indian system of medicine for bronchitis, whooping cough, rheumatic arthritis, and diabetes. This study was focused on the antihyperglycemic and antilipidperoxidative activities of aqueous extract of Pongamia pinnata flowers in alloxan-induced diabetic rats. Alcoholic extract of leaf and root of B. prionitis Linn. was tested for their antidiabetic activity. Albino rats were divided into six groups of six animals each. Animals treated with the alcoholic extract of leaves of B. prionitis Linn showed a significant decrease in blood glucose level (P < 0.01) and glycosylated hemoglobin (P < 0.01). A significant increase was observed in serum insulin level (P < 0.01) and liver glycogen level (P < 0.05), whereas the decrease in the body weight was arrested by the administration of leaf extract to the animals.
