ABSTRACT

Like all of his predecessors, Benjamin Netanyahu faced the multifaceted challenge of terrorism. This chapter will analyze the types of terrorist threats that he faced between 2009 and 2018, ranging from Hamas and Islamic jihad in Gaza to Hezbollah in Lebanon and to Jewish terrorism against Arabs on the West bank, as well as the terrorist threats against Israeli aviation and shipping and cyber-warfare against Israel. The chapter will also evaluate the ways in which Netanyahu sought to cope with the varied terrorist threats against Israel. It will use a mission area analysis (MAA) framework to score his record in combating terrorism (CBT) to assess the success of Netanyahu’s efforts.
