ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book centers on how governments and businesses dwell with the process of technologization in the region, in what way they include digital media to comply with their structural goals: to protect citizens and expand public services in the case of public administrations. It discusses key topics related with the use of digital media in Latin America; particularly how the region is moving toward a mediatization of social and economic activities in a context of political polarization and disinformation, distrust toward traditional institutions, economic incertitude, and the persistent health and social problems associated with the COVID-19. The book examines two key activities that have flourished in Latin America during the last decade: civic engagement and online journalism.
