ABSTRACT

Through initial implementation and continued development of the USMARC Format for Holdings and Locations, the University of Georgia Libraries have derived substantial benefits which create the opportunity for automated control of its large collection of serials. This paper will address four areas regarding the use of the format at the University of Georgia Libraries. First, the environment for library automation at the University of Georgia will be described. Next, the decisions to implement the format will be discussed, followed by our initial steps toward use of the format. Finally, the current use and development projects for further utilization of the format at Georgia will be detailed.
