ABSTRACT
On November 1, 1986, VTLS, Inc. delivered a new version of its VTLS software (Release IV. 1) to the Virginia Tech Libraries for beta site testing. Phase I of the VTLS Serials Control subsystem is a key component of this new software release. VTLS serials control features include check-in and claims records dynamically linked to bibliographic records, automatic anticipation and posting of serial receipts, late issue reminders, claims monitoring, and issue-by-issue updating of holdings records. The mechanism used to link these related records and to enable the automatic serials control processes is the USMARC Format for Holdings and Locations.
