ABSTRACT

Many factors contribute to the explosive growth in demand for document delivery services. Patrons enjoy increasingly easy access to growing numbers of electronic and CD-ROM databases and, thus, easier and faster access to larger numbers of document citations. New resources, technology, document formats, patron expectations, and library network agreements constantly suggest new service and delivery options in an environment in which everyone seems to want more documents faster than ever, while most libraries’ materials budgets shrink every year. To meet patrons’ needs and expectations, access services librarians in universities and colleges struggle to meet the challenge of providing fast, easy, accurate, and cost-effective document delivery from an ever widening range of sources.
