ABSTRACT

Much has been written lately in the library press about the future of scholarly publishing, the future of interlibrary loan, and the future of the library in general. In the library and publishing worlds, two groups that have always viewed each other rather cautiously, electronic publishing is commanding everyone’s interest. Particular attention is being paid to the ways in which electronic publishing will alter the traditional relationship of library to publisher. This comes at a time when the popular media have discovered their newest “hot item “–the information superhighway.
