ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to raise awareness around the importance of reflection, some of the challenges might experience in trying to encourage it and give some strategies to help overcome these. For both the mentor and the beginning teacher to do independently and discuss. Donald Schon also describes the importance of reflection in any learning and makes the distinction between ‘reflecting-on’ and ‘reflecting-in’ practice. The awareness might be of an issue such as ‘pupils do not trust their own reasoning, but always look to the author to know if they are correct’. It also seems self-evident that they need to practice doing these things if they are to become able to generate their own strategies and build their own awarenesses as they continue through their career.
