ABSTRACT

Beginning teachers are all very different, arriving with varying experiences and as such they need to carefully consider adapting the support and encouragement the teachers give, along with the well-judged opportunities and challenges they provide. It is the mentor's role to move the beginning teacher on from the embarrassment to formulating a plan to prevent it from happening again. Part of the mentoring role is helping them see the journey they are on and that many of the things they go through are normal and expected. Expect and encourage them to come up with questions to make sure they are invested in the time.
