ABSTRACT
This essay provides an overview of the Pennsylvania Union List of Serials (PaULS) in the context of the conditions and times in which it developed. The evolution of important factors in the development and implementation of online union lists of serials is noted. PaULS is entering a period that should bring emphasis to maintenance and applications rather than to file building.
