ABSTRACT

Wanderlust is the desire to travel to places of hosted tourism events. The practice of visiting event places of interest for a festival experience is not a new phenomenon. Participants strive to travel and attend events beyond borders while others confine to local and regional events. Of late, there is an increased demand for participation in world events, both religious and secular events due to increased population globally. Hence there is a need for useful events management by host destinations. While hosting events are suitable for hosting countries regarding social and economic gain, there are negative critical issues to consider associated with environmental degradation. This chapter highlights and discusses some of the critical factors in events management. Specifically, it focuses on a religious niche market segment and tourism events. It presents several critical issues and implications from the literature requiring attention from events organisers, marketers and participants.
