ABSTRACT

Artists develop new forms of art performances in different cities, continuing or challenging the tradition of avant-garde performances around the city and psychogeography walks. Based on the concept of creativity, this chapter explores the relationship between tourist routing planning and art performances mainly for leisure and recreation activities. In particular, the analysis will focus on the role of artists in creating itineraries and walks in metropolitan city that results in shaping the perceived sense of place of different types of urban users from residents to city users and tourists based on the use of the senses and ephemeral conditions rather than on historical facts and monuments. The case of Elastic City in New York City is presented as an original way of representing the city as a changing organism, where the visitors are asked to actively participate in the creation of their experience.
