ABSTRACT

The Netherlands has experienced rapid growth in the internationalisation of higher education, particularly during the second decade of the 21st century, fuelled by a switch of programmes into English to make them accessible to greater numbers of international students. The use of English-language materials, coupled with the more diverse background and knowledge brought by students from outside the Netherlands, means that English Medium Instruction (EMI) programmes have increasingly adopted an international and intercultural perspective, although the nature and extent of this perspective varies enormously depending on the teaching context and the content of the specific discipline. Positioned in different departments and faculties across UG, EDs form a network that aligns strategy with educational practice and connects different stakeholders within this process.
