ABSTRACT

Internationalisation is now more of a bottom-up process, and there is a restored sense of belonging to Western cultural values and of more open approaches to education. Individual student mobility is generally perceived as the most obvious and visible part of Higher Education (HE) internationalisation. Polish Higher education institutions (HEIs) tend to demonstrate a rather quantitative approach in their internationalisation strategies, focusing on the number of mobile students and staff and on the number of English medium instruction (EMI) or joint programmes, without due consideration for such aspects as internationalisation at home or incorporation of intercultural and international dimensions into both the core curriculum and extracurricular activities. University of Warsaw (UW) is the largest and highest ranking HEI in Poland with more than 40,000 students, 9% of which are from abroad. The position or role of an educational developer is unknown, so there is really no expert support available to facilitate these change processes.
