ABSTRACT

This chapter presents and discusses a professional competence profile for ensuring the quality of educational development in the internationalisation of higher education. It demonstrates the need for a professional competence profile targeted at for educational developers (EDs) working to support internationalisation of the curriculum. Higher education institutions (HEIs) worldwide are being challenged to transform higher education, partly in response to the societal urgency for action expressed in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs), which indicate increasing international interdependencies and the need for cross-cultural understanding and collaboration personally, professionally, and civically. The ED competences for higher education internationalisation are value-based and guided by specific views on ethical and cosmopolitan approaches to internationalisation and intercultural teaching and learning. Internationalisation of the curriculum aims to provide all students with an international experience and to develop their international, intercultural, and global competences.
