ABSTRACT

The last quarter of a century has witnessed a revolution in the cataloging of all library materials, including serials. The International Conference on Cataloguing Principles and its resultant “Statement of Principles,” the automation of the cataloging process, the ever-increasing importance of universal bibliographic control — these and other factors have shaped and molded the cataloging record. Libraries’ dependence upon bibliographic utilities for cataloging data has led to an acceptance of cataloging standards that conform closely to internationally accepted principles.
