ABSTRACT

Librarians are again beginning to discuss latest entry cataloging of serials. If, however, the description of a serial is based on the first issue as specified by AACR2, then earliest entry cataloging is an alternative to be considered seriously. Here the change is handled through a note and added entry, leaving the older record basically intact. Because of the computer’s Boolean search capabilities, this method does not impair the user’s access to the record. At a time of escalating technical services costs, libraries would find this to be an economical solution to the problems of changes in entry of serials.
