ABSTRACT

This chapter draws only on the group discussions with young people. Group discussion served as the method because it is particularly well suited to documenting collective patterns of orientation and experience such as legitimation. Thematically, the group discussions began with prompts that stemmed from “society as objective reality”, such as common typifications of the everyday world and their social legitimation. Subsequent prompts inquired into subjective comments on the legitimations and explored expectations the participants had of their future biographical trajectory.
