ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we will use data from a large population-derived sample of Australian 11–12-year-olds to explore the associations between the activity composition and fatness. Our basic research question was whether there is a “Goldilocks Day”, an optimal mix of physical activity, sitting and sleep, associated with the body composition characteristics which characterise good heath – that is, lower overall percentage body fat and regional fat, smaller relative waist circumference, and lower body mass index (BMI).
