ABSTRACT

The Adirondack Research Center was established to protect, centralize and make available to researchers the voluminous documentary history on the Adirondacks. Most notable is the collection on history of the conservation movement in the Adirondacks including the politics and government conservation and legislation and its effect on the people and the social histories of the region. Much of the conservation effort as recorded in these documents was focused on saving or protecting the environment through the official care and protection of the Adirondack natural resources. Conservation concerns have evolved into the encompassing interest and concern for the total environment of the Adirondacks as reflected in current documents and legislation.
