ABSTRACT

Contemporary society is marked by the presence of the media, especially in the audiovisual sector. This presence, its dissemination and recent technological advances have defined a new way of interaction and knowledge of reality. Nowadays, experiences are no longer limited in time and space and facts that occur thousands of kilometres away are part of our daily lives, to be debated, discussed and judged by an undetermined number of people. This presence is evident in several situations, such as the consumption of cultural products, television news, the establishment of communities in social networks or the dissemination of information produced by smartphones by witnesses to a specific event, among others. Video-based stimuli could lead to unconscious psychological and mental associations related to elements such as memory, experience, and fantasy. Such elements would be added to the mental processing of the image so quickly as to prevent the performance of rational filters responsible for a more critical reflection on the events observed.
