ABSTRACT

The Working Party’s building information Modelling (BIM) Strategy presented the technology adoption as maturing through distinct phases, called building information Modelling (biM) Maturity Levels. This chapter explains these levels in the practical terms of the main collaborative processes of each for an organisation. The maturity of this integration falls into distinct phases, or levels. These range from uncoordinated 2D drawing production using CAD (Level 0) to project and asset data. The diagram on the facing page is attributed to Mervyn Richards and Mark Bew, both key architects of the Government BIM Strategy. The slope represents the adoption of BIM as a trajectory of increasing collaboration through better integration of project data with computer-based graphics elements. The maturity of this integration falls into distinct phases, or levels. These range from uncoordinated 2D drawing production using computer graphics technology to project and asset data.
