ABSTRACT

The duty of the architect to act professionally is set out in Architects Registration Board's (ARB) Architects Code: Standards of Conduct and Practice and the Royal Institute of British Architects' (RIBA) Code of Professional Conduct 2019, which one signs up to as members. This chapter discusses the codes that relate to professional behaviour towards colleagues. The RIBA notes that its code enshrines the duties owed by members 'towards those in the workplace (i.e. colleagues, employees, employers)'. The ARB and RIBA codes set high-level principles which are necessary for professional conduct. The chapter discusses the dynamic of professional behaviours between colleagues in relation to the creative process. The success of a team’s and a leader’s output undoubtedly demands creative drive, individual initiative and critical thinking. With each member of the team adding their creative ideas to the task at hand, the collective intelligence becomes an outcome of the connections between the team members.
