ABSTRACT

The Myers Briggs Personality Inventory was developed by two American women – Isabel Briggs Myers and her mother Katherine Briggs – who based their work on the theory of psychological types described by Swiss psychiatrist C. G. Jung. The rarest personality type is Extroversion, Intuition, Thinking and Judging (ENTJ), comprising around 1.8 per cent of the population, yet among the architects studied this type was around 31 per cent. ENTJ makes for a formidable personality and one that is not easily persuaded of alternative strategies in business life. Architects generally pursue what is meaningful, rather than what is expedient. They are good at delayed gratification and tend to be highly focused, determined and relentless in their pursuit of excellence. There has never been a greater need to champion architects in a market that is gradually eroding their traditional role and revenue sources.
