ABSTRACT
The Edge in Amsterdam is an office project by PLP Architecture, which was developed by OVG Real Estate for main tenants Deloitte. Since its completion at the end of 2014 and its formal opening in May 2015 the project has enjoyed much interest. The architects’ earliest involvement with the project was in 2007, when they were asked to design new offices in the Zuidas–Amsterdam’s business centre–for Deloitte, the professional services company. Deloitte was going through a period of reconsidering its professional identity, at a time when the company was diversifying the types of consultancy it offered. PLP’s winning competition proposal had office space wrapped around a 10-storey north-facing atrium, flanked by a 20-storey tower element. Deloitte, as an organisation, had started to consider how business might be conducted in the digital age and how they should advise their clients to adjust their strategies.
