ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the description of peculiarities of feeling and of character of a celebrated writer's portrait, by Mackenzie, a skilful phrenologist. Mackenzie describes the person in the portrait to be a man of very powerful talents, as well as a man of deep thought; such a one as might be an able lawyer, speaker, and reasoner. He opines that the person is a philanthropist, at least more so than a worshipper, believes probably in natural religion, and may be respected for his talents, but is not to be envied for his whole development. Mackenzie presented the description without knowing whose portrait it was.
