If his Satanic Majesty should make up his mind to ascend among us in the present day, / it is probable his first attempt to ingratiate himself with the world will consist in writing a book. Indeed he can scarcely do less, in compliment to that particular school which Dr. Southey has thought proper to do him the honour of dignifying with his style and title. 1 At any rate, if he should write a book, we shall assuredly be among the first to ‘give the devil his due,’ whatever that may be. Let us then not withhold it from a person almost as little likely to think, act, or write like other people.
