ABSTRACT

Scriptural Researches on the licitness of the Slave-Trade, shewing its conformity with the principles of the Mosaic Law delineated in the Sacred Writings. The mosiac law is very frequently called, even in Scripture, the Law of Moses, and Moses is said to have been the Lawgiver or the Legislator of the Children of Israel not because it was framed by him, but because the Almighty delivered it to them through his ministry, and he committed it to writing. It is singular enough, that the very first Law, or Judgement, in the Scripture language, enacted by God himself immediately after he had delivered the Ten Commandments to his People, should be respecting the Slave-Trade; and that also with the additional circumstance of not restraining them from purchasing their own brethren, their own flesh and blood.
