[Fragments, 1844]

These five manuscripts are dated from January to August of 1844. The first anticipates ‘Literary Plans’ for the forthcoming year; three of them contain notes on William Wordsworth; another turns from figures on British troops for his essay on ‘Affghanistan’ (Blackwood’s, August 1844) to ideas for a new paper on ‘Murder Considered as one of the Fine Arts’. The manuscripts also include notes on a variety of additional topics. Two of these manuscripts are from Dove Cottage, one from Boston University, one from the collection of Paul Betz, Georgetown University. The last transcript, for which the original manuscript has not been traced, is from Japp’s edition of Posthumous Works.
