ABSTRACT

The connexion between Great Britain and Ireland, is a subject of paramount interest to the inhabitants of both parts of the empire. It has lately been presented to public notice and discussion, under circumstances of unusual anxiety and alarm; it still necessarily continues to occupy the first place in the mind of every man, on each side of the channel, who wishes well to his country; and the consideration of it cannot fail to be speedily resumed in the British Parliament. The present state of the civilized world, and the relative circumstances in which the two countries are placed, require, as a matter of absolute necessity, that they should be united; and that their Union should be perfect and indissoluble: without it there can be no safety, nor even any hope of tolerable existence for either.
