ABSTRACT

This chapter compares results of quantitative and qualitative spatial analysis in analyzing an equity of accessibility to public open space (POS) in Shenzhen’s Nanshan District. Quantitative analysis determined that residents of low-rent housing have much lower POS access than residents living in general residential buildings. However, the qualitative approach did not show the same degree of contrast. Where POS is limited, perceptions of accessibility are more affected by the amount of POS provided; when POS is abundant, perceptions are more influenced by administrative and environmental factors. The chapter makes recommendations for governmental measures to address identified inequities in POS access.
