ABSTRACT
This chapter chronicles the short and curious history of the Hong Kong government’s East Wing Forecourt and its transformation into Civic Square through political action over the past decade. It demonstrates the highly contingent process by which protestors and public authorities interact to produce a politically meaningful place from a quotidian urban space.
