ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we focus on Sport New Zealand’s (Sport NZ) Coach Developer program with the intent of describing how coach developers can model a competency-based approach for coaches by learning this way themselves. We provide insight into how “knowledge” is integrated throughout the Coach Developer course, but it is not the course “driver”. Andy provides insights into the program’s evolution, design and implementation. We provide examples of some key instructional strategies adopted in the course, and conclude with ideas to promote reader reflection on their own coach developer practice.
