ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the process by which Critical Reflection and Appraisal of Practice became a required course within the MSW programme in which people teach, and what our hopes are for further integrating critical reflection into the programme. Fook's model of critical reflection on practice is based upon initially writing a brief account of the context of an incident which is to be reflected upon, a slightly longer account of the actual incident, and a sentence or two explaining why the incident is important to the person reflecting. It is usual within outsider witnessing practices for the people whose conversation was witnessed and commented upon by an outsider to have the last word. It is found the process of critically reflecting upon our critical reflection process within the Narrative Therapy consultation group, for the purposes of writing about what sustains and develops our critical reflection practices, an enriching and rewarding experience, as people have found critical reflection usually is.
