ABSTRACT

The collection of manuscripts in this volume represents a complex and continually evolving concept of access services. Rightly so. These works, in their diverse yet integrated viewpoint, paint a better picture of access services than any other collection or single article previously published. By approaching access services as a complete entity composed of related services, Gregg Sapp has brought together a group of articles that reflect the variety and vitality of access services departments of the nineties. This collection may open the gate for a flood of articles that describe how access services operations function and are managed. To date, however, the literature shows few articles or monographs that attempt to holistically describe access services departments. 1
