ABSTRACT

Scholarly journals have served the academic community well for almost 350 years. They are thoroughly embedded in the process of scholarly communication. These journals have developed their own genres and formats, supporting scholarship in subtle ways. As we move into the electronic age, scholarly journals will evolve and change. The role of librarians and scholars in guiding and nurturing the evolution of these journals into new forms is examined.
