ABSTRACT

For the study of persecution as a literary theme in early Jewish literature, it is important to examine all of the relevant resources. The Hebrew and Greek versions of Lamentations count amongst these resources. This study focuses on the literary images of human and divine persecution preserved by the MT and LXX wordings of Lamentations 3:52–66. It presents text-critical discussions of the similarities and differences between the two versions of the verses and highlights how they represent the persecution theme of the passage. The goal of the study is to make a contribution to the discussion regarding the role that textual criticism can play in research on persecution as a literary theme in early Jewish literature.
