Emerging Roles for Academic Librarians in the Technology Transfer Process

Within the past decade the university has taken on a new role in technology transfer and economic development. Implicit in the transfer of technology is the transfer of information, which affords new roles and opportunities for the information specialist. This paper describes innovative and user-driven uses of commercial databases for technology transfer at the Computerized Literature Search Service, a unit of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Libraries.
