ABSTRACT

Public libraries promote technology transfer by acting as important centers for information transfer. Free to all, the public library provides an ideal regional access point for individuals, corporations and local governments seeking information on new technologies. Using the Science and Technology Department of the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh as a case example, this paper discusses three key ideas:

Patron needs arising within the technology transfer process;

Information resources that facilitate that process; and

Services provided to bring patrons into contact with the information they need.
